Overview
A 3-hr drive passing through the countryside, old churches, ancestral homes and scenic beaches or approximately 121km south of the city is the town of Oslob, home of these gentle giants. Upon arrival, proceed for a short tour briefing. Afterwards, board a 6-8 seater paddle boat with a boatman rowing out about 2m from the shore and enjoy a 30-min close encounter with these whale sharks. A life jacket will be provided for each guest.
Kawasan Canyoneering – This tour is not for the faint hearted. Upon arrival in Kawasan, meet your local guide and listen carefully during the orientation. There are available shower facilities in the briefing area if you need to change clothes and there’s also available lockers for your things. You better give your locker keys to your guide for safekeeping. Afterwards, don on your life jacket, hard hat, wet suit and you’re good to go! There are available water-proof cameras & aqua shoes for rent on site. Price will range to Php 550 for the camera while Php 150 for the shoes (subject to availability). Should you wish to rent, kindly ask assistance with your local guide. It is advisable to travel less, but in case you need to bring anything necessary, your local guide will bring a dry bag. Once ready, you will hop on a local motorcycle to bring you to the drop off point. Travel time is about 30-min uphill. Upon arrival at the drop off point, you will have to trek for 30-min on an uphill and downhill trail (a good warm up for canyoneering). Then, move on to the first of many jumps of varying heights from 5 feet to 30 feet.
Feel the rush! Your heart thumping strong and wild, your mind tells you not to but your heart wants to! This downstream canyoneering is perfect for beginners where walking, scrambling, climbing, swimming and jumping is expected. You will navigate your way thru Matutinao River where water is very blue (depending on the actual weather), simply irresistible! Some parts of the river are deep and some are rocky so you better swim carefully. There are amazing rock formations and small caves along the trail. Wherever you look, it is just beautiful that you want to capture everything if you have a water-proof camera. There are also small caves that you’ll pass through (depending on your actual itinerary). You can play with the streaming waters or relax for a bit. After traversing the river and jumping from some waterfalls, you’ll be hiking through a forest until you reach the grounds of Kawasan Falls. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Kawasan Falls.
